All › Full moon behind Ashton Memorial.

Full moon behind Ashton Memorial.

from £95.00

After failing the night before for this shot due to cloud rolling in behind the Memorial I had another crack at it, this time conditions where perfect, the moon rose deep orange which made exposing for the image a tad easier, taken 3 miles away using a 600mm lens to compress the distance of the moon to the Memorial.

I had planned this image months ago using PhotoPills, firstly I drop a pin on the Memorial with the date set to the date of the full moon, I then follow the projection line back carefully looking for possible viewpoints, once found I then drop the pin here and work out how much I need to allow for from when the moon rises to the time it will be exactly behind the memorial, now luckily a possible viewpoint was Lunecliffe Hall, and luckily for me i knew someone who lives next door and I knew the Memorial was visible from his house, so in the week I asked for his permission to come up wander about on his land to fine tune it all and take the shot.

This was the result, I often have full moon shots lined up for each month but usually it’s cloudy! This one worked out ok
